Firas Sarhan is the Director and lead academic for the Centre of Excellence for Telehealth and Assisted Living. Previously Senior Lecturer in the School of Advanced & Continuing Practice at Buckinghamshire New University, he set up CETAL in March 2012 with the aim of identifying how the application of technology can support the needs of individuals living in the community, to ensure a safe quality of care and to improve their quality of life.
Firas is a Registered General Nurse, specialising in spinal cord injury nursing. He has more than 20 years experience in acute, rehabilitation and continuing care of people with spinal cord injury. He regularly presents at national and international conferences and has several publications on the areas of telehealth and spinal cord injury care.
Through partnership and collaborative work, we aim to promote innovation to meet these needs. Our strategy is to examine service redesign in key areas of health provision by working with clinicians and commercial companies, as well as to develop training packages in Telehealth, Telecare and Assisted Living for professionals.
